A North Wales politician has called for council tax to be frozen in Wales to protect households from rising bills.
Commenting on the Welsh Government’s announcement of provisional funding details for councils in Wales for 2012-13, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said.
“The Welsh Government should follow the lead of the UK Coalition by introducing a council tax freeze next year.
“With Conwy and Denbighshire’s settlements being either cut or flat lining, the pressure will be on the Local Authorities to implement a big hike in council tax to make ends meet.
“The UK Government has already provided the Welsh Government with extra cash to freeze council tax and families in England are already benefiting from a freeze this year.
“With household bills for energy and groceries rising, the Welsh Government must act now to offer the same help to hard pressed Welsh council taxpayers in these difficult economic times.”
