Deputy Leader Backs Charity Bet

The Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council, Councillor Neil McEvoy, is backing a novel challenge by an unemployed Cardiff man who is trying to raise £1,000 for charity.

Dave Wright, 27, has placed a bet with William Hill that he can reach one million followers on Twitter by midnight on Christmas Day, with all the winnings going to charity. If he is successful Dave plans to split the winnings between Velindre Cancer Hospital and Greyhound Rescue.

Councillor McEvoy said: “Dave asked me to help him with this very worthwhile challenge and I was more than happy to lend my support. Before I heard about Dave’s challenge I had never used Twitter but I have now signed up, @neiljmcevoy, so I can become one of his followers and I urge everyone else to do the same.

“If he is successful it will have been an incredible achievement and a great way of donating money to two very worthwhile causes.”

Dave said: “I am really pleased to have the backing of Councillor McEvoy, any support I get will really help me.”
