Burns: Uni applications fall “raises questions for Labour policy”

Commenting on a fall in Welsh university applications, Shadow Minister for Education Angela Burns AM, said:

“A dramatic fall in the number of English applications should act as a harsh wake-up call for the Education Minister.

“His wafer-thin tuition fees policy is based on a steady flow of students from England alleviating costs.

“Today’s figures raise serious questions over what is essentially a half-baked and impractical policy – initially designed to grab a few headlines. It remains a runaway train gathering bags of taxpayers’ cash every month – with no end to the line in sight.

“I sincerely hope the Minister will now be looking very carefully at his calculations.”
