Housing association launches Looking Local digital site

On Monday 31st October Tai Ceredigion’s new Looking Local digital site was launched at the Bro Teifi Sheltered Scheme in Cardigan. This new digital platform makes communicating with the housing association much easier as people without the traditional internet access can get in touch via different means.

Tenants can access the Tai Ceredigion’s Looking Local page through their Sky television, Nintendo Wii or their mobile phones in order to find out how to pay rent, report repairs or tenancy issues such as Anti Social Behaviour, get involved and give general feedback.

Gareth Lewis, a Tai Ceredigion Tenant Board Member at the launch said “Looking Local is very user friendly and as most tenants already own a television and know how to use a TV remote control it is very simple to use. I think older people will access it through their Sky box and then younger tenants via their smartphones.”

Steve Jones, Chief Executive of Tai Ceredigion said “This is another medium through which we can keep tenants up to date with information and they can communicate back to us at any time. It is an innovative solution that provides a two way communication to our tenants who do not have traditional internet access. To see our new digital site simply go to http://lookinglocal.gov.uk/taiceredigion on your PC, laptop or Nintendo Wii, for your web enabled mobile phone just put in lookinglocal.gov, for smartphones download the lookinglocal app or lastly find us on the Community Channel 539 on your Sky Box.”

Bro Teifi Sheltered Scheme already holds weekly computer classes for its residents on Thursdays between 10am-12pm which are funded and hosted by Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government digital inclusion programme. In these classes older tenants are shown how to use computers, keep in touch with grandchildren via Skype and webcams and how technology can help them with everyday life.

Marilyn Farmer, a tenant of Bro Teifi Sheltered Scheme said “I am already computer literate and attend the weekly computer classes held here by Communities 2.0. The new Looking Local digital site is another fantastic way to keep in touch with our landlord and will help many people.”
