Sporty young people chosen for Denbighshire ambassador roles

Three young ambassadors have been selected to help inspire young people in Denbighshire to get involved in sport.

The Young Ambassador scheme encourages young people to become role models and leaders through sport. It helps develop their confidence and skills, so they can encourage others to get motivated to take up activities that improve their health and fitness.

The Ambassadors for Denbighshire were chosen after an interview and the panel were very impressed with their professionalism, enthusiasm and knowledge.

The three selected were James Denton (Ysgol Dinas Bran), Ellen Deir (Ysgol Glan Clwyd) and Sam Hughes from Prestatyn High School).  They have already undertaken their first official duty by attending a national conference in Cardiff.

Councillor Morfudd Jones, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for Leisure, said: “This is a really exciting development for leisure in Denbighshire.

“The Young Ambassador scheme is an excellent way to gain experience and skills in communication and leadership, whilst encouraging more people to become healthier through sports activities.”

Jamie Groves, Denbighshire’s Head of Leisure, Libraries and Community Development, said: “The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics will be used by the Young Ambassadors as a catalyst to inspire change in others. The initiative will recognise and reward committed young sports leaders in our schools and communities with further training and opportunities”.
