Chance for Welsh learners to brush up skills

Welsh learners in the Gwent area are in for a treat this November. Gwent Welsh for Adults Centre is organising a Welsh weekend course to be held over two days at Coleg Gwent’s Pontypool Campus on 26 and 27 November.

The course aims to give Welsh learners an opportunity to practice their linguistic skills in one of Coleg Gwent’s most popular rural campuses. With over fifteen contact hours delivered by experienced tutors over the two-day course, learners will have an excellent opportunity to give a much-needed boost to their Welsh.

Welsh in the Workplace Development Officer Sean Driscoll explains why the course will prove useful:  “Many learners will agree that taking advantage of any extra opportunity to speak Welsh is essential to the learning process. The weekend courses also offer an opportunity for learners from Gwent and beyond to meet with each other and forge new friendships – yn Gymraeg!”

The Welsh for Adults Centre based at Pontypool organises other events besides the weekend courses for aspiring Welsh speakers. It’s Ysgolion Undydd – or Day Schools – are also very popular. These day schools travel around the Greater Gwent area, and up to 14 are offered during the academic year.

Before Christmas, there will be one more day school which will be held at Brynglas House on 10 December. The Brynglas House day school traditionally has a festive feel to it, and includes some mince pies, mulled wine, Welsh carols around the Christmas tree and a visit from a certain red suited bearded fellow!
