Emergency work to repair water mains on Caldicot’s Jubilee Way and Newport Road is to be brought forward and will start on Monday, 21st November. The work was scheduled for the New Year but a number of bursts on the line have put pressure on Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water to start repairs and complete them by Christmas.
Work will be carried out 24 hours each day except Tuesdays and Saturdays – Caldicot’s market days – and two way traffic signals will operate until 1st December 2011. During December signals will be manually operated to alleviate potential problems with Christmas shopping traffic.
Monmouthshire County Council’s Highways Network Manager Mike Jones said: “We have agreed that Welsh Water should bring this scheme forward because of numerous bursts on the water main and to ensure that disruption to the general public is kept to an absolute minimum”.
Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water are to hold an informal public meeting from 10am to 12noon on Tuesday 22nd November in the council’s Severnside One Stop Shop to discuss the works. Mike Jones will be present to answer questions with the scheme designer, the delivery/project manager and the contractor.
Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water will also write to local residents about a formal public information event to be held between 2pm and 5pm on Tuesday 29th November at Caldicot’s Severnside One Stop Shop.
