A stunning fireworks display lit up the night sky above the Vale of Clwyd as a top girls’ school enjoyed some early Christmas sparkle.
Pupils at Howells School, Denbigh, celebrated the start of the festive season with a spectacular show of pyrotechnics for more than 250 parents. teachers and friends.
The Christmas Extravaganza began with a musical performance by some of the school’s talented musicians.
Everyone then enjoyed a hog roast in the school’s dining hall, bedecked with fairy lights and the flags of 40 nations to celebrate the school’s international connections,
They were then treated to a 20-minute kaleidoscope of colour above the school and Denbigh Castle.
Parent Sian Mueller, an ex-pupil whose daughter, Lauren, has followed in her footsteps, declared the evening a “huge, spellbinding success”.
She said: “The fireworks were absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere was brilliant and in fact the whole evening has just been superb.
“We’ve had mulled wine, a hog roast and the best fireworks display I have ever seen.
“The oohs and the aahs during the display and the huge applause at the end summed it all up.
“It was absolutely fantastic. we all thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Nicola Locke, a school Trustee, was delighted that everybody had enjoyed the evening of celebration and the disco that followed.
She said: “The Parent Teacher Association arranged a Christmas Extravaganza that entertained everyone – they did a magnificent job.
“The the girls danced with their friends and guests. Everyone had an amazing time.
‘I have lost count of the number of people, even some in town who enjoyed the display from a distance, who said this was certainly the best fireworks display they have ever seen.
“Our boarding girls go home in early December for a one-month break, some travelling thousands of miles, so it is wonderful that we can celebrate the end of another successful year and an early Christmas together.”
