A Christmas Memorial Service will be held at the Wenallt Chapel at Thornhill Crematorium on Sunday 11th December 2011 between 2 – 3pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend and pay their respects to their loved ones during this Christmas period.
The Welcome will be given by Cllr Jayne Cowan, Deputy Lord Mayor and the service will be led by Rev Lionel Fanthorpe and contain a number of readings, poems and Christmas carols. Deborah Morgan Lewis Grant will be singing at the service.
During the service a collection will be held in aid of the WAY Foundation (Widowed and Young) a bereavement support group for those widowed under the age 50. Over 135,000 men and women in the UK are widowed under the age of 50, while 53 children and young people are bereaved of a mother or father every day. The WAY Foundation provides a social and support network for those affected.
Refreshments will be available after the service.
This Christmas, Bereavement Services will again be selling memorial tags for a minimum donation of £2.00 in memory of a loved one which can be placed on one of the Christmas Memorial Trees in the Wenallt Chapel Courtyard. The trees will be placed from 5th December 2011 and will remain until 6th January 2012 when they will be removed in keeping with ‘Twelfth Night’ tradition. All donations received will be in support of the WAY Foundation.
Councillor Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, said: “The festive season can be a particularly difficult time for those who have lost a loved one and we are glad to be able to give this opportunity for people to come together to pay their respects. We are also pleased to support the WAY Foundation, a charity that offers crucial support for those suffering bereavement all year round.”
