On the eve of Carwyn Jones’ second anniversary as First Minister, Welsh Conservatives published a damning indictment of the Labour First Minister’s time in office.
During Carwyn’s two years of inaction, the number of patients waiting for treatment has risen by 42%, while urgent cancer treatment and A & E target waiting times have not been met once.
There are now fewer small businesses than in 2009, the number of air passengers travelling to and from Wales has fallen and Wales remains the poorest part of the United Kingdom.
Over the past two years, Wales has been outpaced by England in GCSE and A Level performance, while the number of teachers in Wales continues to fall.
Andrew RT Davies AM, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, said, “Carwyn Jones’ tenure as First Minister has been dominated by inaction, mismanagement and failure.
“Under Labour, Wales remains the poor man of the UK, with a smaller private sector and an uncompetitive economic environment.
“Worryingly, Carwyn Jones has placed the hopes and ambitions of the Welsh economy in the hands of a Marxist champion.
“Our NHS is struggling to bear the brunt of Labour’s cuts at a time when the service is facing increased pressures to deliver vital services.
“Critical waiting time targets have not been met once in the past two years, for cancer patients needing urgent cancer treatment or patients waiting beyond four or even eight hours in A & E departments.
“Welsh Labour Ministers need to turn their back on the tribal ideology-driven agenda of the past and start working constructively in the best interests of the people of Wales.
“Families across Wales are tightening their belts to get through tough economic times and expect the Welsh Labour Government to create the conditions for growth, invest in our NHS and give teachers the freedom to teach.
“The people of Wales deserve better.”
