New Chapter for Radyr Library

The refurbishment of Radyr Library is well underway, with work taking place to improve facilities at the venue.

The work is part of the Council’s Libraries Development Programme, which has seen substantial improvements made to several libraries over the last few years including: Cathays, Penylan, Llanrumney, Rhiwbina, Grangetown, Llandaff North, Rhydypennau, and Central Library.

Plans for Radyr will see a full refurbishment and extension including a new flexible community space available for clubs and groups to use, improved visibility and access within the library, a public toilet, new heating and lighting systems, and new furniture and fittings throughout.

The work will take approximately six months with completion planned for spring 2012.

Funding for the refurbishment has come from the Council’s Capital Fund, 106 developer contributions and CyMAL.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “As a Council we continue to invest in our libraries and library services. Over the past few years libraries across Cardiff have benefited from our Library Development Programme and I am delighted that Radyr Library will now receive improvements thanks to the programme.

“We continue to develop our libraries and recently held a consultation to ask members of the public for their views on library services within Cardiff and this feedback has helped us to ensure libraries offer the services that the community wants and needs.”
