Work has begun on the next phase of Ferndale’s ongoing regeneration programme.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council staff and contractors are now on scene in the town centre to complete phase two of the regeneration works on three key sites.
The commencement of works comes just months after residents, businesses and stakeholders were given the chance to see for themselves how their new-look town centre could appear during public consultation and exhibitions.
Committed to delivering the work the town’s representatives and local people have said they want and need, the Council has got to work on the key schemes, which have been made possible thanks to the Welsh Assembly Government’s Heads of the Valleys funding scheme.
The schemes are:
Lime Street Car Park Walkway Link, work on which will begin the week commencing November 30, with an expected completion date in February 2010. This will see the construction of new retaining walls to the neighbouring properties, paved ramps and steps and lockable gates with artistic, eye-catching railings at the Lake Street and Lime Street Car Park ends.
Library, work on which is due to begin on December 7 and continue through to February next year. The scheme will comprise construction of a new boundary wall, kerbs, paving and a new bus shelter.
Anchor Inn, work on which will begin next January 4, with an expected completion date in February 2010. The works comprise the construction of a new paved, stepped area and footway, with masonry walls and attractive, eye-catching railings.
The work will be coordinated by the Council’s Construction Projects Unit, delivering the plans and vision created for the town by its residents, representatives and the Council’s Regeneration and Planning directorate.
It is further proof of the ongoing investment in the town centre, which has its own far-reaching regeneration strategy that is being delivered to ensure it remains an attractive, vibrant place to live, work and visit.
