Residents and motorists are being urged to take extra care as heavy wind and rain affects the County Borough.
There is a large amount of surface water on roads and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Streetcare team have been working around the clock to unblock culverts in various locations and dealt with several trees that have fallen as a result of the severe weather. The Met Office has issued several warnings across the UK but the rain is set to ease later this afternoon.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is urging people to take extra care, especially when they are out and about as the wind and rain continues to affect driving conditions.
Current Issues
- Llwydcoed Road is currently closed to drivers from the Aberdare entrance (near Pirelli factory) whilst the Council work to clear a blocked culvert that has been made worse by the continued rainfall. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
- Trehafod Bypass is currently passable with care but a large amount of surface water is making conditions difficult. Motorists are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys an expect delays.
- Nantgwyddon Road, Gelli is currently passable with care and the Council is currently working to address the issue.
- Cilfynydd Road is now passable with care following the diversion of surface water.
- The A4059 has now been cleared following a fallen tree in the highway.
Cllr Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning, said: “Severe weather conditions have affected Rhondda Cynon Taf overnight and into today and the wind and rain has caused some damage and surface water.
“Staff continues to work proactively to protect the public and respond to issues. People who are concerned or have an emergency can contact us on 01443 494700.”
If you see a problem during normal working hours you are advised to contact the Council on 01443 494700 and for out of hours emergencies call 01443 425001 and the teams will do all that they can to resolve the issue as soon as possible, however these will be prioritised and dealt with in order of urgency.
