The Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Allan Pritchard has offered his congratulations to local people honoured in this year’s New Year Honours.
Former Rhymney Comprehensive head teacher Meredydd James is awarded an MBE for services to education, and Dr Christopher Howard, head teacher of Lewis School, Pengam is awarded an OBE for services to education.
Cllr Allan Pritchard said, “I have known both of them for many years, and I am delighted that they have now been publicly recognised for their unstinting work in raising standards in their schools and the wider communities over many years”.
Ynysddu couple Patricia and John Bonthron, who have dedicated the last thirty years to fostering, have also been awarded MBE’s in the New Year Honours for their services to children.
Also to receive honours were Ynysddu resident Eirwen Griffiths Roberts, who is awarded an MBE for her services to the community and former Blackwood Comprehensive teacher Walford Hutchings, who is awarded an MBE for services to music and to the community in Torfaen where he lives.
Businessman and founder of Bedwas company Peter’s Food Services, Peter Thomas, is awarded a CBE for entrepreneurship, sport and charity in Wales.
