Improved bus service between Blackwood and Newport

Travelling between Blackwood and Newport on Route 56 became even easier from Monday (9th January 2012) as Stagecoach in South Wales increased the frequency to up to every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime.

Route 56 operates between Tredegar, Markham, Blackwood, Ynysddu, Cwmfelinfach, Crosskeys, Risca & Newport every hour with the Blackwood to Newport section previously operating up to every 30 minutes. From 9th January 2012, the Blackwood to Newport section will operate every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime. There are no changes to the frequency of those buses travelling to / from Tredegar. The service also runs up to every two hours during the daytime on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

John Gould, Managing Director of Stagecoach in South Wales, added: “We hope that the introduction of a 15 minute frequency between Blackwood and Newport will give the travelling public a viable alternative to the private car. We believe that this enhancement will deliver a much-needed boost for bus provision in South Wales, and also play a vital role in sustaining the environment. Our message to residents along this route is simple – leave your car at home and “just go” by Stagecoach instead!”

“Only last June we invested £750,000 in Service 26 as part of an ongoing Stagecoach campaign in South Wales to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and travel instead by bus. Since the launch passenger numbers have risen by on average 45%.”

Cllr Rob Gough, Caerphilly county borough council’s cabinet member for transportation said, “We welcome the introduction of this enhanced service that will hopefully encourage even more local people to use our excellent public transport facilities. The council is keen to promote local bus and train services and we are delighted that Stagecoach are working with us to increase frequency for the benefit of our travelling public.”
