Three Criccieth RNLI volunteers have been awarded national honours for service to the charity and their efforts in helping to save lives at sea. Jim Owen, Robin M. Roberts and Carol Emery are to be awarded various Badges for their work. Badges are awarded annually by the RNLI for personal contributions towards the charity’s work.
Jim Owen, whose career with the RNLI spans 46 years, is to be presented with a Gold Badge at a ceremony in London. Mr Owen has held several important and prestigious positions with the RNLI in Criccieth, including president, senior helmsman, deputy launch authority and shorehelper.
Current president, Robin M. Roberts is awarded the Silver Badge. Mr Roberts has been with the RNLI since the 1950s. In addition to his current appointment, Mr Roberts has served as box secretary, crew member and shorehelper at the station.
A Bronze Badge is to be presented to serving vice-president, Carol Emery. As well as being vice–president, Mrs. Emery has worked tirelessly for the RNLI’s guild, raising money for the charity. Mrs. Emery’s family has a long standing affinity with the station.
Lifeboat Operations Manager, Peter Williams stated:
‘It is fitting that these three individuals are presented with honours for their work with the RNLI. Their contributions, operational or otherwise, have proved vital in saving the lives of many people. I’m sure that the local community echoes the sentiments of gratitude shown by the RNLI.’
