Deeside Leisure Centre is hosting a free Family Fun and Fitness Festival on Sunday 15 January in memory of Zoe Martin, who tragically lost her battle against cancer last July.
Zoe worked within Flintshire County Council for Sports Development, before leaving to live in Australia, where she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was a keen athlete and gymnast, and always kept fit. In later years, she also entered triathlons.
On Sunday 15 January, a range of activities and fitness sessions will be available to the whole family from 10am to 3pm (bookings must be made in advance), with donations being taken for Nightingale House Hospice. Because of Zoe’s love of sport, the Sports Development team at the Council felt that this festival was a fitting tribute to their former colleague and friend. Julie Rice-Williams, who organised the event, said:
All instructors and staff involved in the festival will be working voluntarily. Following Sunday’s event, the team are aiming to hold similar events across some of the other main leisure centres in Flintshire, with a range of activities and fitness classes being on offer free of charge.
For further details, please contact Julie Rice-Williams on 01352 702463 or email [email protected]. Please note that all sessions must be booked in advance, by contacting either 01244 845444 or 01244 845443, or emailing [email protected]. Closing date for registration is Friday 13 January 2012.
