Joining the library was a lucky move for Irene Kirnon as she won a cinema season ticket donated by Apollo Cinema in Rhyl. She was presented with her prize at Rhyl Library yesterday by Kara Knott of Denbighshire Libraries.
Mrs Kirnon said: “Winning this pass is absolutely great for us as we visit The Apollo every week. My son has ADHD and he loves to watch films. Going to the cinema is something we do together as a little bonding exercise! When I told him I had won the pass he was busy planning what we’d see next!
“I’m not the quickest of readers and usually only get through one book every month or so, but I love using the library. My reading gives me some ‘me time’ and a chance to relax.”
Everyone who joined a library in Denbighshire in November was entered into the draw as part of See the Film Read the Book. The promotion aimed to encouraged cinema goers to join the library and borrow books which have been made into films.
Kara Knott from Denbighshire Libraries said: “There have been so many films recently which are based on some great books – exciting modern titles like We need to talk about Kevin and The Help and classic books like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. The promotion has been a great success – lots of people joined the library and hundreds of books have been borrowed.”

The See the film Read the book promotion was run by Denbighshire Libraries in partnership with the Apollo Cinema Rhyl for Libraries Fortnight, a national campaign which is one element of the Welsh Government’s strategic libraries programme 2011-12 which supports library services in Wales to work in partnership to provide free access to cultural, educational and recreational materials in library buildings, in the community and online.
