Gwynedd Council have succeeded in bringing a case against an untidy property at Waunfawr near Caernarfon.
An enforcement notice was served to the owner of 6 Pant y Waun in January 2011 due to the condition of the property which impairing on the amenity of the surrounding area. It was decided to prosecute Mr Barry Steven Eldridge following an investigation by an officer from Gwynedd Council’s Planning Enforcement Unit, because he had not complied with the requirements of the notice.
At Caernarfon Magistrate Court on 5 January 2012, Mr Eldridge was found guilty, and received a fine of £435 and was also ordered to pay the Council’s full costs of £758.
Councillor Gaerth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Environment Portfolio Leader said: “Securing an acceptable level of amenity for the county’s residents is important, and as a Council we have a responsibility to take action against any case where property is having a significant detrimental effect on the amenity of the surrounding area.
“This is a clear message that non compliance is not an option and that the Council, following a period of trying to conform with the individual, are willing to take the matter further and the consequences can be serious.”
