New Plans Approved for Eastern Leisure Centre

New plans to redevelop Eastern Leisure Centre have been approved by the Council’s Executive.

The modernisation of the facility will include a deck level swimming pool, a new dance studio and spin room and greatly improved gym and gymnastics facilities.

Other features are to include an open reception area, a licensed café and juice bar over looking the swimming pool and village style changing rooms.

The existing outside 5-a-side area will be transformed into modern Multi Use Games Area and two squash courts will remain at the centre.

The original building which is now 30 years old is well used by the community and attracts over 200,000 visits per year.

Plans to refurbish the site have been well received by local residents and the consultation process attracted positive feedback.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “Eastern Leisure Centre is a valuable facility right in the heart of the community.

“It offers a diverse programme of activities for people of all ages and members of staff deliver an excellent level of customer service.

“Improvements to the centre will hugely benefit visitors and demonstrates the Council’s commitment to providing modern, first class provision for leisure and sport.”

Cardiff Council has recently carried out refurbishment projects on several of the city’s leisure centres including Western, Maindy, Penylan and Splott, transforming them into light, modern facilities boasting state-of-art equipment and facilties.
