New plans to redevelop Eastern Leisure Centre have been approved by the Council’s Executive.
The modernisation of the facility will include a deck level swimming pool, a new dance studio and spin room and greatly improved gym and gymnastics facilities.
Other features are to include an open reception area, a licensed café and juice bar over looking the swimming pool and village style changing rooms.
The existing outside 5-a-side area will be transformed into modern Multi Use Games Area and two squash courts will remain at the centre.
The original building which is now 30 years old is well used by the community and attracts over 200,000 visits per year.
Plans to refurbish the site have been well received by local residents and the consultation process attracted positive feedback.
