Europe’s biggest trailer maker is celebrating after doubling its exports to Denmark.
The Scandinavian sales boom has been triggered by the appointment of a new distributor, Glad Trading, based in Kalundborg, on the island of Zealand.
They have created a new network of 12 outlets for Ifor Williams Trailers across the country.
News of their success came during a visit by a delegation of Danish representatives to the trailer company’s factories in Denbighshire and Deeside.
Jacques de Farcy, the Head of European Sales for Ifor Williams Trailers, accompanied them on their three-day tour.
He is delighted with the success of Glad Trading which completed its first full year as Ifor Williams Trailers distributors last year.
Established by Peer Glad 40 years ago, the company was already a major car distributor which imports Land Rovers and Peugeot to Denmark.
His son, Jacob, Glad Trading’s General Manager, said: “In our first full year we have more than doubled sales and we have gone up to being the market leader now in Denmark in two tonnes plus category.
“Our aim now is to become the market leader in all the trailer categories and we want to keeping increasing our sales.
“The only way we can do that is with a good strategy and also good distributors to push the brand.
“We have brought them over to visit Ifor Williams Trailers so they can fully understand the company, see how the trailers are made and the commitment to innovation and quality here.
“Ifor Williams Trailers is a very strong brand, their excellent trailers are a different class to anything else that is available in Denmark.
“That has not happened by accident. They put a huge amount of effort into research and development and nobody tests as extensively as them
“Quality control is king and that’s the right approach because people rightly have high expectations.
“Meeting and exceeding people’s high expectations are key to our future success. We want to build up a good relationship with our customers so that they keep coming back to us whenever they want a new trailer.
“We have been given a fantastic welcome and the senior management team here have devoted a great deal of time to our visit which is greatly appreciated. It’s growing into a very special relationship.”
The same sentiment was echoed by Jacques de Farcy who commended Glad Trading’s enthusiasm and professionalism.
He said: “They’ve already established a comprehensive network covering the whole of Denmark in a short space of time.
“It means that any Danish person that wants to buy an Ifor Williams Trailer will never have to drive very far to find one.
“Ifor Williams Trailers have the well-deserved reputation of being very sturdy and long-lasting trailers. They are well engineered.
“Recently, a German equine magazine, Cavallo, conducted a series of tough tests and declared that the horsebox made by Ifor Williams Trailers was the best in Europe.
“I am very excited about the future of Ifor Williams Trailers in Denmark. It is not a very large country, the population is only around five or six million people but it is a great market for trailers.”
