Marriage for yoU

To Celebrate National Marriage week the Mothers’ Union of the Diocese of Swansea & Brecon held an exhibition with a difference which covered all aspects of getting married including some suggestions for Cost cutting for weddings. The exhibition, entitled “Marriage for yoU”, in the National Waterfront museum was opened by  D. Byron Lewis Esq., CStJ, FCA., H.M. Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan.

In his opening remarks the Lord Lieutenant said, “The Mothers’ Union promotion of Marriage as a “lifelong partnership” and marriage being for a “lifetime and not just for one day” are both key messages to society today. The need to promote conditions in society favourable for a stable family life and the protection of Children is so vital.” He continued “I was fortunate enough to be present at the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. It was a wonderful and joyous occasion and they are certainly role models for young couples today… a young couple going forward on life’s journey together, being supportive of each other  as a married couple.”

The President of the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Swansea & Brecon, The Rev’d Kay Warrington said, “The ethos of Mothers’ Union is “Christian care for families” and we are particularly concerned with promoting marriage as a lifelong partnership. Couples may become so focused on the detail of their fairy tale wedding day that they may miss the significance of the marriage vows (promises) made to each other during the wedding service.   Mothers’ Union wishes couples to be aware that the Wedding is just one day but Marriage is a lifetime. Marriage is about loving for life.”

Bishop John Davies, the Bishop of Swansea & Brecon commented “I am delighted to commend the efforts being made in Swansea through Marriage Week to help people plan to celebrate their wedding day as fully and joyfully as possible and above all to realise what lies at its heart and to which no price-tag can be attached, their enduring love for each other.”

In addition to the Exhibition the Archdeacon of Gower, The Ven.  Robert Williams, launched a new website which outlines the aims and objectives of the Mothers’ Union and gives information about the projects they undertake.

As a result of this exhibition the MU has decided to attend some local Wedding Fayres to promote the idea that the wedding is one day but marriage is a lifetime commitment. They will also be in Swansea Market on Friday Morning raising awareness of Marriage Week.
