Richard White, County Councillor for Newtown East, has welcomed today’s news that a new Welsh primary school is to be built adjacent to the High School in Newtown. The school will have a capacity for 270 pupils. Speaking after the decision, Cllr White said:
“I am delighted that the Council’s Cabinet has given the green light to this school. Welsh medium education is very important and I am happy that the Council has recognised this. Original plans to build the school on Newtown Town Park were widely condemned and I was heavily involved in the search for a new site.”
Cllr Aled Davies, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in Powys, said:
“I’m very happy that the Council Cabinet has given the go-ahead to this development. The Welsh Conservatives strongly in favour of promoting Welsh medium education. The site is adjacent to Newtown High School in Cllr White’s ward. I am proud of how hard he has fought for this vital new resource for Powys.”
