There will be no excuses for Llŷn residents not to go out and about for a walk and enjoy Gwynedd’s fantastic coastline following permission being granted to create a new public footpath in the Llanbedrog area.
As part of the Wales Coast Path project to create a continuous path for people to be able to walk all along the Welsh coast, Gwynedd Council’s Coastal Path Team have been successful in gaining permission to create a new public footpath in the Llanbedrog area.
The Council have been discussing with land owner for some time, and by now have reached an agreement to create this new public footpath. The path will connect the Carreg y Defaid beach car park with Lon Nant Iago in Llanbedrog.
Rhys Roberts, Gwynedd Council Coastal Access Project Officer said: “All the hard work of negotiating with the land owner has paid off, and this part of the work together with the recent work which has taken place at Plas Glyn y Weddw has seen a great investment in the public footpath network of the Llanbedrog area.
“The work of putting in place kissing gates and reposition boundary fences will take place in the next few weeks. After the work has been completed residents and visitors will be able to enjoy this new public footpath.”
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Portfolio Leader for the Environment added: “It is great to see work progressing well at various locations as part of the coastal path programme. We hope the Wales Coast Path will attract more visitors to our wonderful coastline which will also provide a welcome boost for the local economy.
“However, it is also important that local people make the most of the new coastal path, and it is good to see that improvements including making footpaths more accessible for members of the public. What better way to enjoy Gwynedd’s stunning coastal scenery than by walking along the new coastal path.”
The coastal path project has invested nearly £700,000 in Gwynedd path network over the last year, through a number of projects across the county, and the project will continue for the next year.
The completion of an 870 mile long Wales Coast Path is a key Welsh Government commitment. The development programme is managed by CCW and funded by the Welsh Government, the European Regional Development Fund (through the Environment for Growth theme of the Convergence Programme) and the 16 local authorities and two national parks through which the path passes.
