Artistically able and talented Flintshire school children from years 5 and 6 attended an art masterclass in Rhosesmor recently, where they learned print-making techniques with visual artist, Ruth Thomas.
This art project, Criw Celf, is taking place over six North Wales counties and it is providing opportunities for 25 children in each area to develop their skills and experiences by working with professional artists. The children, selected from over 70 applicants, showed talent and/or a special interest in art. They will attend a total of six art training days arranged by the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council.
Two Fine Art degree students from Glyndwr University, Sarah Hart and Kassia Miller, volunteered their time and expertise to help the children learn stencil making, how to use rollers to ink-up plates and how to operate the printing presses.
The Flintshire Criw Celf children have been delighted with Ruth Thomas’ training days. They enjoyed experimenting with colours, new media and learning brand new skills. The print-making classes were described as fun, exciting, messy and something to treasure.
The Flintshire Criw Celf Art Project is funded by Arts Council Wales and Flintshire County Council.
