Taith i Waith – the journey back to work

Gwynedd businesses are being invited to free information events over the coming weeks to raise awareness about a new project to support people with mental health problems.

The Taith i Waith/ New Work Connections project – which covers the north west Wales area – is supported in Gwynedd by the Council. Its aim is to support people who, through a range of disadvantages, are economically inactive or unemployed.

The free information workshops held in Caernarfon and Porthmadog by Gwynedd Council’s Taith i Waith team will provide information to local employers about offering work placements to individuals who are looking to find a route back to work through the Taith i Waith project.

Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Portfolio Leader for Economy and Community said:

“For too long, mental health problems have been a taboo subject in our society, which has often meant that people coping with such problems have found it very difficult to find the support they needed to take that step on the road into employment.

“Our aim through the Taith i Waith project is to ensure that people with mental health problems have the right support so that they can feel confident about moving back into work. Gwynedd Council’s Taith i Waith team are working with the county’s employers to identify opportunities to develop work placements.

“I hope these information workshops will provide an excellent opportunity to develop closer ties with Gwynedd companies so that we can work together to break down those traditional barriers which have made it difficult for people with mental health problems to find work.”

The Taith i Waith business workshops will be held at:
–         The Celtic Royal Hotel, Caernarfon on Monday, 5 March 2012 from 6pm to 8pm
–         Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog on Thursday, 8 March 2012 from 6pm to 8pm

As part of the events, a new information booklet will be launched which will provide vital information for employers about how to deal with mental health issues in the workplace.

Gwynedd’s Taith i Waith team will be part of the event to offer advice and information about the opportunities available through the project. Officers from Gwynedd Council’s Business Support team and the Welsh Government’s Regional Centre will also be on-hand to answer any other questions from local employers.
