Library Service Scoops National Marketing Award

Denbighshire have scooped a national award in the Welsh Libraries Marketing Innovation Awards 2012.

The awards were open to all library and information services in Wales to recognise and reward marketing innovation. Libraries in Wales run innovative marketing activities throughout the year and the aim of the awards is to celebrate and promote this valuable work.

Arwyn Jones of Denbighshire Library Service commented: “We are so pleased to have won the runner-up award for our See the Film Read the Book promotion in partnership with the Scala Arts Centre Prestatyn and Apollo Cinema Rhyl.  The judge praised the coherent brand management and the sustainability of the campaign. We have signed up many new library members and grown new audiences for both libraries and cinemas. We are delighted to have gained national recognition for our work.”

Cllr Pauline Dobb, Cabinet Lead Member commented: “I warmly congratulate the Library Service on winning this award, and am delighted that the excellence of our staff and the service they provide to local people has been recognised nationally. I am also very pleased that the Council was able to work closely with the Scala and the Apollo on this campaign.”

The awards were judged by Dr Jonathan Deacon, Reader in Entrepreneurship and Marketing at Newport University Business School and Chair of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Cymru. Dr Deacon commented: “Although these awards are to recognise marketing within the library service across Wales I have to say that there are many aspects and illustrations of excellence in marketing that could equally be applied to any business or organisation within Wales. The majority of entrants displayed a clear focus as to what their objectives were and set about developing a marketing strategy to achieve their goals – what makes this applicable to many more business situations is that the strategies were low in budget but high in innovation and creativity – just proving that sophisticated and successful marketing does not depend on large budgets.”

The Marketing Innovation Awards is one part of the national marketing campaign for libraries in Wales, which forms a central part of Libraries Inspire, the Welsh Government’s strategy for libraries in Wales.
