The Dee estuary continues to unlock its rich history of tales and folklore during February and March 2012.
As part of the Flintshire Artsfest, pupils from Ysgol Glanrafon, Mold; Ysgol Llanfynydd and Ysgol Brynffordd have been working alongside professional glass artist Rhian Haf, to create original glass work inspired by the ‘Maen Achwyfan’, one of Flintshire’s most impressive ancient monuments, which overlooks the Dee Estuary.
Each school participated in a series of design processes, which involved drawing, discussion and collage, which then led to creating individual glass tiles.
The project was coordinated by the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council and funded by Flintshire Artsfest, Flintshire County Council, Cadwyn Clwyd Rural Development Fund and the Arts Council of Wales.
The exhibition will be on display from 17 March to 9 April 2012 at the Education Gallery, Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
The exhibition will be opened by the Chair of Flintshire County Council, Cllr Hilary McGuill, on Friday 16 March at 1pm at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, with all pupils in attendance.
Rhian Haf
Rhian Haf graduated in glass from Edinburgh College of Art in 2000 and has been a practicing artist for the last ten years. Her work is mainly based upon several kiln-forming techniques, fusing, slumping and casting, achieved by firing to a range of different temperatures. She creates functional works for the home, sculptural and site-specific installations. Her work is of simple, minimal and contemporary design and she has exhibited widely over the UK Rhian has recently completed her MA degree in Architectural Glass at Swansea Metropolitan University.
