As part of the ongoing redevelopment of Glan y Morfa Court, a sheltered housing complex in Connah’s Quay, a newly refurbished Function Room has been opened there this week (Tuesday March 13).
This refurbishment follows on from the remodelling works to many of the flats at Glan y Morfa Court, which began in 2010, and have been carried out as part of Flintshire County Council’s aim to improve the availability of quality older person’s accommodation in the county. The works followed extensive consultation with existing tenants at Glan y Morfa, councillors and officers.
Glan y Morfa’s Function Room, which was being used a store room, needed extensive renovation, including a new kitchen and new windows, as well as works to make the room accessible for wheelchair users.
Councillor Helen Brown, Executive Member for Housing at Flintshire County Council, said:
“It’s fantastic to see the success of the first and second phase of remodelled flats at Glan y Morfa, which are now fully occupied. The completion of the new Function Room means that tenants from outside of the scheme can now also attend events at Glan y Morfa, which is well on the way to becoming a flagship scheme for older people in Flintshire.”
Consultation will now take place with tenants about a possible third phase of remodelling works at Glan y Morfa, which would be to remodel the remainder of the bedsits within the scheme into one and two bedroom flats.
