Davies: Budget for work and business ‘will support economy’

Commenting on today’s budget announcement, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly Andrew RT Davies AM, said:

“This is a budget that rewards work, backs business and will support the economy, while benefiting tens of thousands of families the length and breadth of Wales.

“The Welsh Government’s refusal to accept the huge advantages within it smacks either of politically motivated rhetoric or a complete lack of understanding.

“Furthermore, the First Minister’s cheap political point-scoring over the last few days has done nothing but spread doom and gloom for no good reason.

“Important announcements on broadband, increased funding for the Deeside enterprise zone and further consideration of valleys rail electrification should be welcomed by all. It is now up to Labour ministers to stop the scaremongering and work constructively with the UK Government on each of these measures.

“The additional funding made available today should also be prioritised on areas so far ignored by the Welsh Government, notably further support for homeowners who have been denied a council tax freeze or the introduction of a much-needed cancer drugs fund in Wales.”

Deputy Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly and Shadow Finance Minister Paul Davies AM said:

“The First Minister’s politically motivated scaremongering ahead of this budget served absolutely no constructive purpose.

“Today he has been forced to recognise that this is a positive step forward for both the Welsh economy and families right across our country.”
