Two new Independent Board members have recently joined Tai Ceredigion’s fifteen strong team to help direct, advise and make decisions for the organisation. After receiving many applications and going through a comprehensive interview process, Peter Saunders and Derek Lassetter were appointed to the Board in February.
Between them, they bring a wealth of experience and different skills to the table. Peter originally trained in Cardiff as a Town Planner, but soon moved into research and then lecturing. He taught at John Moores University in Liverpool for a number of years developing an interest in public policy, particularly housing and health. For the last 12 years of his career Peter was Director of Student Services and responsible for introducing significant changes to the administration and delivery of all student support. Latterly, Peter has developed an active interest in social care and ‘extra-care’ housing.
Peter, who is now retired living in Aberystwyth and is learning Welsh, said “Tai Ceredigion has a great opportunity to develop services that reflect the particular needs of Mid-Wales. It is important that the excellent work that is in hand is developed and extended.”
Derek, on the other hand, has enjoyed a lengthy career in industry with various management roles in the field of specialist metals and engineering. He has worked in London, Birmingham and Sheffield with extensive overseas experience. He is also an independent member of the British Hallmarking Council and a committee member of the NHS Dyfed Powys Research Ethics Committee.
Derek lives in Aberystwyth with his family and said “My view is that Tai Ceredigion has quickly become established and respected as an organisation making a real contribution and a real difference to the lives of people in this county. Personally, I am very keen to be involved in the community and am pleased to have an opportunity to use my experience and skills to help Tai Ceredigion in this work”
The Chairman of the Tai Ceredigion Board, Councillor Hag Harris, said “We would like to welcome our two new Independent members, Peter and Derek, to the Board. We would like to thank them for volunteering their time and experience and we look forward to working with them.”
