Cllr Allen Williams

Cllr Allen Williams was a well respected, long serving Councillor who died on Saturday, 17th March. He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues and friends at the Council.

He served with distinction as Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council in 2007/08. He represented the Argoed ward, was a widower and leaves one son, a daughter in law and two grandchildren. He lived for over forty years in the Argoed area.

Allen was born in 1935 in Aberbargoed, educated at New Tredegar Technical Institute, Monmouthshire Technical College and Treforest Technical College where he studied for his National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

He started working in the drawing office of the National Coal Board’s offices in Tredomen in 1952 and in 1967 became an Assistant Engineer to a mining consultancy and finished his working career as Works Manager for an Engineering company in Abercarn and Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Allen had also served as a Community Councillor for the Argoed Ward since November 1995 and was also its first Chairman. He has been a Caerphilly county borough councillor since June 2004. Cllr Williams’ main interests were in sports and he had a great involvement in charitable organisations and events. He took a great interest in the Voluntary Sector and was Chair of the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO).

Chief Executive, Anthony O’Sullivan said on behalf of the authority “Allen served his community with a great deal of passion and was always ready to help and support colleagues and his local community. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”
