Young people across Cardiff will be making their voices heard at a carnival themed Conference next week.
Cardiff Youth Council, a youth organisation representing 11 – 25 year olds from across the city, is supported by Cardiff Council’s Youth Service and works alongside key decision-maker’s in Cardiff to advocate for positive change and opportunities for young people.
Around 200 young people from schools, youth centres, and community organisations in Cardiff have been invited to the event at City Hall on March 30, which will see the launch of the “What Matters? Young People’s Guide”, outlining the strategic vision for the capital city.
The guide is based on consultation with children and young people in Cardiff and feeds into a city-wide 10 year strategy, which sets out how organisations, from the public, private and voluntary sectors plan to work together to improve the quality of life for everyone in the city. The conference will also feature information stands and services available for young people in Cardiff.
Members of the Cardiff Youth Council have joined forces with Cardiff Council officers to organise the conference which aims to capture the views and opinions of the young people attending and provide a platform for youth based organisations and school councils to network. The iSay social media tool that will enable young people to voice their opinions will also be launched at the event.
Cardiff Youth Council Chairperson Sam Patterson, who has been involved in organising the Conference, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for 200 young people from across Cardiff to come together and discuss things that affect them.
“We just want to show that young people care about important issues. We want to change things and can make a difference.”
Cardiff Council’s Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning Freda Salway said: “The Cardiff Youth Council conference is an excellent forum for young people to come together, meet new faces and share their opinions on what matters to them and their peers.
“It’s wonderful to see young people playing such an important part in developing the strategy that makes sure all children and young people have their rights in Cardiff. I’m sure the Conference will be a great success. It promises to be an informative and interesting day for all those who attend.”
