Now that the evenings are getting lighter, young people in Holywell are being encouraged to get outside and get sporty – with Flintshire County Council’s mobile sports stadium – the ‘Street Stadia’ – in town.
The Council and partners are holding a series of open access sessions for young people in Holywell, with the ‘Street Stadia’ spending Friday evenings in Fron Park Road. The Holywell sessions are a multi agency partnership with the Council’s Youth Justice Service and Young Persons’ Drugs and Alcohol Team, North Wales Police, Communities First, and is also supported by Tesco Holywell.
Mark Parry, Senior Practitioner with the Flintshire Youth Justice Service, said:
“The sessions at Holywell are a great success and well attended, with 20 plus young people taking part each time. Our mobile ‘Street Stadia’ has been out and about across the county since it launched, and we’re really pleased with how well it’s being received. Open access sessions like these in Holywell mean that we are able to engage with young people, and encourage those who may not otherwise be able to access such a facility, to get involved with sport.”
Flintshire’s Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team and the Flintshire Youth Justice Service bought the ‘stadia’ with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s substance misuse capital fund.
The ‘stadia’ travels in a box trailer and can be easily transported and assembled. It can be placed almost anywhere to provide a focal point for all kinds of activity, including football, rugby, netball and street dance.
