Gwynedd school pupils and students could be in with a chance of having their artistic talents showcased through one of Europe’s premiere youth festivals.
Children and young people from Dwyfor and Arfon are being invited to enter a competition to give a warm welcome to Urdd National Eisteddfod as it makes Eryri its home in 2012.
There are two categories for the competition and those taking part could win a cash prize for their school or college:
Primary school pupils are asked to design and make a welcome sign to be placed either at their school or in their community welcoming the Urdd National Eisteddfod to Eryri.
Those entering should put their welcoming signs up before 4 May 2012, and contact the Urdd with a picture of it and its location, and the judge will visit all sites during May.
The winning entry will be displayed on the Urdd National Eisteddfod festival site during the eisteddfod week (4-9 June), where more than 100,000 people are expected to visit. Winning individuals/teams will also scoop £25 for their school.
Secondary school pupils (16 and under and 16-19 year-olds) are asked to create a three-minute film to show the world what the area has to offer and what makes them proud to have the eye of Wales on Eryri for one week in June.
The winning short film will be shown on both Gwynedd Council’s tourism services website www.visitsnowdonia.info and on the Urdd’s website www.urdd.org – and both sites are expected to be more popular than ever during the eisteddfod week and for the festival run-up as more people than ever find out about the Urdd and the area where the eisteddfod will be held.
Each winning individual/team will also pocket £50 for their school or college.

“The area is gearing up for an amazing week and I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing old friends and new from all over Wales and beyond visiting this beautiful part of the country.
“This competition will show that the fun and hospitality is not limited to the Maes – there will be a warm welcome wherever Urdd members and their families go in Gwynedd.”
Urdd merchandise produced especially for the event is available to purchase at local Tourism Information Centres in Gwynedd.
