Beard shave for British Red Cross

Darren Millar has raised £200 for the British Red Cross by shaving his beard off.

The Clwyd West AM announced his intention to shave his beard over the Easter weekend on twitter, provided that £200 in sponsorship could be raised in support of the British Red Cross. The cash was raised within three days.

Darren, who broke his ankle in October, was a recipient of a British Red Cross wheelchair loan during his recovery.

This week is British Red Cross week, marking a host of fundraising activities across the UK.

Speaking after presenting a cheque to the Red Cross Medical Equipment Service in Abergele, Darren said:

“The British Red Cross is an inspirational charity and I am delighted to donate to the organisation, especially given the help I received following my  accident last year.

“It Medical Equipment Service provides short term loans of equipment such as wheelchairs, for people with a disability or illness who are waiting for a personalised NHS chair – it truly is a worthwhile cause.

“I was never really sure what people thought about my beard, but the fact that I raised £200 in just three days suggests that people thought I was better off without it!”
