The Central Library will be open for most of the festive season this year, closing down fully only on Christmas Day. Council staff will be opening the ground floor of the prestigious new library on Christmas Eve, plus Boxing Day, Sunday 27th and the Bank Holiday Monday, when branch libraries and other council premises will be closed.
It will be the only public library in Cardiff open during the Christmas period, and possibly the only local authority run library in the whole of the UK that will be offering such a service. The library will provide a haven for those people who may have been brought into town by their partners to visit the sales when all they wanted to do was settle down with a good book or surf the net for a couple of hours. Both services will be available free of charge at the Central Library.
Cllr. Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said “I’m really pleased that Cardiff is able to offer this extended service to its council tax payers. This is a real first in service delivery for the city. We’ll be monitoring the take-up to establish whether it will be worth repeating next year.”
The opening hours for the ground floor of the Central Library will be:
Thursday 24th 9 – 3
Friday 25th – CLOSED
Saturday 26th 10 – 4
Sunday 27th 11 – 3
Monday 28th 9 – 6
