A new Tenovus choir, which recently launched in Swansea, will perform in public for the very first time on Tuesday 12 June, at a gala dinner attended by delegates from a prestigious cancer conference held at Swansea University.
The Swansea-based choir was set up in April and is part of Tenovus’ ‘Sing with Us’ project which will see 15 choirs created across the whole of Wales over the next three years. The choirs are for anyone who has been affected by cancer; be it as a patient, friend, relative or carer.
The conference, which runs from 11th -13th June, will look at new techniques for diagnosing disease. The focus will be on the new field of “Epigenetics”, with expert speakers from Italy and France as well as London and Swansea.
Dr Steve Conlan, Co-Director of the Centre for Nanohealth at Swansea University, who is hosting the conference, said:
“We are delighted that the choir will be performing for the conference delegates.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring together people whose lives are affected by cancer and scientists who are helping to improve diagnosis. Maybe they wouldn’t cross paths normally, so it’s great that they have a chance to get together”.
“It’ll be a great experience for our delegates, and I’m sure the choir will do themselves proud.”

“This will be the first time our Swansea Sing with Us choir will have performed publicly, and I know they are really excited to have been given this opportunity to sing in front of people who are working directly in the field of cancer research.
“We’ve had a fantastic response from people in Swansea and the choir already has over 30 members, but we’re always looking for more!”
The choir will be singing at the conference gala dinner which takes place at the National Waterfront Museum on Tuesday 12 June. Swansea Sing with Us choir meets every Tuesday evening at 6.30pm at the YMCA Swansea, 1 Kingsway, Swansea.
