Glamorgan Archives Catalogue Available Online

Glamorgan Archives has launched a brand new online catalogue, making it easy for people to access details of records at the touch of a button.

Canfod, the Glamorgan Archives online catalogue, contains over 163,000 entries detailing the holdings of Glamorgan Archives, which span over 800 years of Glamorgan history.

For the first time this catalogue is now available to search anywhere in the world. To access Canfod visit www.glamarchives.gov.uk.

The catalogue can assist those interested in tracing their family tree, help to uncover the history of your house, help you to discover more about your town or village, or assist with school, college or university project research.

The material described in Canfod is available to view in the public searchroom at Glamorgan Archives in Leckwith, Cardiff.

Cabinet Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Huw Thomas, said:” The catalogue will help a whole new audience to access the range of documents held at Glamorgan Archives.

“A simple click of the button can open up a whole host of history for users of the service and will provide a vital tool for those undertaking  research, whether it be for their family tree or university work.”

Glamorgan Archives serves the County Borough Councils of Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Vale of Glamorgan and the City and County of Cardiff.  It has over 8 kilometres of records in its strongrooms, dating from the twelfth century to the present day.
