A fifty year time capsule is to be buried under Bagillt’s new jubilee beacon on Thursday 21 June.
Flintshire County Council’s Coastal Rangers, Councillor Kevin Jones, Councillor Mike Reece and the Bagillt Heritage Society are busy gathering contributions for the capsule, which will be put under the new beacon created for the Jubilee on top of Bettisfield hill.
The Coastal Rangers are inviting all children, parents and grandparents of Bagillt to contribute pictures, poems, stories and memory cards from the year of the Diamond Jubilee.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:
“Linking Bagillt’s wonderful new dragon beacon with a community time capsule is the perfect way to remember such a historic event as the Diamond Jubilee, and will ensure that Bagillt people have included their own personal contribution to history.”
Alistair Hemphill, Coastal Ranger, said “Councillor Kevin Jones and Councillor Mike Reece will collect all contributions, and the deadline is the morning of Thursday 21 June. The time capsule will be a great way of delivering letters to the Bagillt community of the future!”
Children and teachers from Glan Aber Primary School and Ysgol Merllyn will be at the beacon at 11am on Thursday 21 June
A celebration beacon burn will be held on Thursday 21 June at 10pm.
