Monmouthshire’s Libraries will launch StoryLab, the fun summer reading challenge encouraging youngsters to pick up a book over the holidays, on Saturday14th July with a number of free events. Storylab is open to all children and those completing the challenge will enter a prize draw to win an Ipad.
Abergavenny Library will host Demon Strike author, Andy Newbound, in an Olympic themed extravaganza. The Literacy Olympics is a fun-packed 60 minutes, filled with the kind of brain-busting challenges, puzzles and quizzes that children love. Starting at 2 pm youngsters can sample riddle wrestling, story fencing, the memory marathon, the word decathlon and much more. Andy will also make an earlier appearance that day at Chepstow Library from 11am to 12noon.
Meanwhile, at Gilwern Library, Risenga Makondo, a popular artist at World Music festivals will relate Caribbean stories with music using traditional African instruments and costume. The performance starts at 2.15pm.
