A new exhibition in Caernarfon is a celebration of the talents and creativity of children and young people in Gwynedd.
Visitors to Oriel Pendeitsh in the town will have an opportunity to enjoy a selection of work by some of the members of Criw Celf Gwynedd along with the creations of some of the artists who have been their tutors.
Criw Celf is a club for children and young people between 9-14 years of age who show a special talent or interest in art and provides opportunities for them to practise their art skills. Each member attends a programme of one day master classes in the company of experienced professional artists who specialise in various art practises.
Criw Celf was established in Gwynedd in 2007 by Gwynedd Council’s Community Arts Unit. The scheme is funded by Gwynedd Council and Wales Arts Council.
On Saturday 14 July the exhibition was officially opened by Sian Tomos, Wales Arts Council and Councillor John Wynn Jones, the Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Arts on Gwynedd Council.
“Criw Celf is doing excellent work in nurturing the talents of our children and young people, and it is great to see their creativity recognised in this exhibition,” said Councillor John Wynn Jones.
Gwawr Roberts, Community Arts Development Officer for Gwynedd Council says “Since establishing Criw Celf in Gwynedd the success of the scheme has become self-evident. The scheme is now available across north Wales and has plans to establish a digital arts scheme in the near future.”
This exhibition will show work in various media including drawing, printing, glasswork, a record of environmental art and digital artwork. The work was created during master classes with Tim Iliffe, Catrin Williams, Ann Bridges, Bill Swann, Tim Pugh, Tessa Elliott and Jonathan Jones Morris amongst others. The artist Tess Urbanska was also instrumental in her support role to Criw Celf Gwynedd providing valuable input to the scheme.
The exhibition can be seen at Oriel Pendeitsh, Caernarfon from 13 July 13 – 27 August, 2012. The Oriel is Open daily between 9.30 – 4.00. For more information call 01286 676476.
