Free Wi-Fi is now available at Gwynedd Council’s public buildings throughout the county.
Following a recent expansion of the Digital Gwynedd initiative, the county’s network of Wi-Fi hotspots now extends to the county’s libraries, leisure centres and information centres.
Anyone who has a fully charged laptop, tablet device or smart phone with them can access the internet for free when visiting any of these places.
Councillor Ioan Thomas, Gwynedd’s Customer Care Cabinet Member, said:
“By upgrading our public buildings to bring them up to date with the latest technology, free internet access has been made available to all.
“This means people can catch up with the news or send e-mails while their children are swimming, or surf the internet while at the local library.
“It’s all part of our vision of making our buildings as accessible and user-friendly as possible.”
The Digital Gwynedd initiative, which is supported by the Welsh government, is aimed at expanding internet accessibility throughout the county, in line with a government commitment to bring high speed broadband to every home and business in Wales by 2012.
Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy, said:
“Helping more people to harness the power of the internet is one of our top priorities for us as a council.
“Good internet access is becoming increasingly important in all aspects of our life and we are pleased to be able to offer this key service in our council buildings.
“If you are on the move anywhere in Gwynedd you will always be within easy reach of the internet as you will know that a Wi-Fi hotspot is never to far away.”
