Flint maisonettes – demolition preparation work begins

Work has begun to prepare the maisonettes at Coleshill Lea in Flint for demolition.

Tenants have now been re-housed and the building is ready, and approved, for demolition.

J Freeley Limited has been appointed as the successful contractor to carry out the demolition works and preparation work is due to get underway. A start date for demolition will be agreed, following confirmation that all service disconnections have been carried out satisfactorily.

The demolition of Coleshill Lea is expected to begin by late August and extend into September. A high tech 360 excavator will be used for the demolition process, and arrangements have been put in place to sort and recycle as many materials as possible. During this time there will be increased activity in and around the site and members of the public are urged to take extra care around this area. The site will be secure and closed off to the public, and measures will be in place to keep dust and noise nuisance to a minimum.

Councillor Helen Brown, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“These are really exciting times for the residents of Flint, and we are very pleased that preparations for the demolition of Coleshill Lea are moving ahead so quickly. The tenants and residents have been remarkable, and I would like to thank them for their cooperation and the way they have worked with us, which has helped us to reach this point earlier than expected.”

Councillor Alex Aldridge, local ward member, said:

“I’m obviously delighted that the beginning of the process is at hand. This unit is the first, however, others will follow in due course as they become vacant and the people living there-in have been provided with homes of their choice.”

Councillor David Cox, local ward member, said:

“We very much welcome the go-ahead for the demolition of Coleshill Lea, which signals a new era for the tenants of Flint, and we are looking forward to the future, when tenants and residents will have the opportunity to return to new accommodation.”
