A Children’s Home in Cardiff has received praise for its management and good practice following a recent routine inspection by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW).
Crosslands home, in the west of the city is described by CSSIW as a well managed home, providing ‘skilful care in supporting the children and young people living there to achieve positive outcomes.
Cllr Richard Cook, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: ”I am delighted with the contents of the inspection report. I would like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to the manager and staff at Crosslands for their dedication and commitment to the young people who live there.
“I am particularly pleased that the young people living in Crosslands feel they are listened to and valued and have expressed feelings of ‘belonging’. The strong leadership of the manager and the experience and skills of the staff means they are able to provide the young people living there with the best guidance and support they can as well as a high quality of care.”
The CSSIW noted examples of good practice including the continued support of young people after they have left the home, and in protecting them from making poor lifestyle choices. The inspection also noted the manager of Crosslands demonstrated an effective model of leadership, which was empowering to staff and young people.
Cllr Cook concluded: “Providing high quality social services is a fundamental responsibility of this Council, and working towards achieving positive outcomes for looked after children in the city is an important priority which we will continue to build on.”
