The proceedings of the National Eisteddfod’s Literary Tent will open with an historic event, when all of Ysgol Glan Clwyd’s headteachers, past and present will be together in the audience.
Mr Desmond Healy, the school’s second headteacher will preside over the opening ceremony of the Literary Tent. Following those duties, he will join Mr Haydn Thomas, the school’s first headteacher, Mr Glyn Jones, Mr Meurig Rees and the present headteacher, Mr Martin Davies in the audience to watch the current pupils of Ysgol Glan Clwyd presenting the school’s history in speech and song.
Ysgol Glan Clwyd was the first Welsh-medium school in Wales, and was opened in Rhyl in 1956. It moved to its present site in St Asaph in 1969.
The script and music has been written by Caryl Parry Jones, a former pupil of the school and over eighty pupils will be performing. The performance will follow the Literary Tent’s opening ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday 3rd August. There will also be a performance the following Saturday afternoon at the Eisteddfod’s Theatre.
