Cardiff Council has successfully prosecuted Solent Pizza W Limited for failing to comply with food safety legislation.
After pleading guilty to the offences at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, the company was subsequently fined £2000 on the 12th September 2013, and ordered to pay costs of £900 together with a victim surcharge of £15.
Cabinet Member for Environment Ashley Govier said: “Cases such as this sends out a strong message that businesses in Cardiff will be prosecuted if they breach the food safety law.
“The Environmental Health Team will continue to ensure that consumers are protected by taking a consistent, appropriate and balanced approach to enforcement.”
Environmental Health Officers inspected the premises, Domino’s Cardiff Bay, after it was reported a customer had found a metal fragment in their pizza. Officers found a number of metal screen bases used to cook the pizza were damaged and had the same physical and chemical characteristics as that fragment found in the pizza.
Solvent Pizza W Limited run a number of Domino’s outlets in South Wales and some in England. The company claims new procedures have now been put in place with specific checks to the metal trays and internal audits.
