Local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has highlighted her support for developing grassroots football and is looking to give clubs across Wrexham a helping hand.
The Wrexham AM recently attended a grassroots football reception in Cardiff hosted by McDonalds, the Welsh FA and Loughborough University. The aim of the event to analyse how the voluntary game can be further developed across the nation with all Assembly Members who attended the event eligible to receive free equipment to donate to teams in their constituencies.
McDonalds has been the community partner of the four national Football Associations for over 10 years, during which the company has helped train and recruit more than 20,000 coaches in the UK. Many local clubs have benefited from McDonalds’ KickStart campaign and further information, including how to apply for grant funding, can be found on the McDonalds website.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said:
“Due to the generosity of regional McDonalds restaurants, I have been in the position to offer youth football club in the Wrexham constituency some free footballs.”
“Brickfield Rangers, Borras Park Albion and Venture FC have already received a share and last week I visited Marford and Gresford Albion and Borras Park Rangers Under 10s.”
“It has been great to see so many boys and girls across the region exercising and enjoying their football, all being supported by parents and family members on the side-lines, whatever the weather.”
“I hope to visit the remaining Wrexham clubs in the coming weeks. Everyone I have met involved at the various clubs work tirelessly and are vital to their local community. Their hard work and dedication is very much appreciated and I’m sure the footballs will be a great help.”
