All Treats, No Tricks this October Half Term in Cardiff

HalloweenSpooky story time, walk the plank, fancy dress, arts and crafts and sporty competitions are amongst a fantastic programme of activities on offer to children in Cardiff throughout the coming half-term holiday.

Leisure centres, libraries, Cardiff Story Museum, parks, Sport.Cardiff and Cardiff Castle will all be hosting a range of events to attract and amuse children of all ages, offering something for everyone during the October break.

Cabinet Member of Sport, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ramesh Patel said:

“An exciting and diverse series of fun activities and events have been compiled to keep children entertained and active during the school break, whatever their interests may be. There really is something for everyone and I am sure families from all communities will enjoy what looks set to be a jam-packed week of fun.”

Giant inflatables, trampolining, football competitions, Street Games activities and free swimming are some of the fantastic goings-on taking place at leisure and community centres, whilst libraries will host Halloween themed crafts and story times.

The Community Ranger Service are set to lead a series of wildlife activities in Cardiff’s Parks such as a bird walk around Roath Park, nature trails and for the brave the Roath Park Conservatory House of Horrors which promises ghouls and vampires run amok on this scary night!

For kids keen on sports, Sport.Cardiff will be providing activities linked to the schools sports programme including basketball, table tennis, fencing and Tae Kwon do.

Children with an artistic flare can come along to the Cardiff Story Museum and use their skills in collage, drawing, colouring and stencils in the Cardiff Story Art Challenge or help the resident artist design how Cardiff’s future skyline may look.

For spooky happenings and strange goings-on, Cardiff Castle will host several family events; Face –to-face encounters with real creepy crawlies such as spiders, scorpions and snakes to name a few or the Hallowe’en themed trail around the grounds. A ghosts and ghouls parade will give everyone the chance to show off their fabulous Hallowe’en costume creations, plus spooky storytelling, and for those that dare, a visit to corners of the Castle where people rarely go. For the first time ever, the Undercroft is converted into a Gothic cinema for a special showing of ‘Hotel Transylvania’ by day and for the older and braver amongst us, ‘Dracula’ takes to the screen by night.
