Clean up or face a £75 fine – that’s the message to irresponsible dog-owners in Pembrokeshire.
Pembrokeshire County Council’s dog wardens have already issued 29 fixed penalty tickets this year to people who failed to clean up after their pets.
Councillor Brian Hall, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transportation, said the offence doesn’t have to be spotted by one of the wardens.
“Dog wardens and other members of the team are authorised to issue tickets to people who allow a dog in their control to foul land to which the public have access without cleaning up after the animal straightaway,” he said.
“However, if sound witness evidence is available then the offence wouldn’t have to be witnessed by one of our team.
“In practice this means that anybody walking a dog needs to be prepared with a bag or a scoop.”
A fixed penalty ticket of £75 is initially issued. If this isn’t paid in fourteen days then the matter may be heard in court where a maximum fine of £1000 applies.
Dog waste can be disposed of in general litter bins provided by Pembrokeshire County Council.
